- Manchester City are in negotiations with RB Leipzig for defender Josko Gvardiol
- The Croatian star is keen on securing a move to join Pep Guardiola’s side
- Leipzig had been resistant to selling but Gvardiol has told them he wants to go
Manchester City’s pursuit of Josko Gvardiol intensified on Sunday night as RB Leipzig’s sporting director confirmed the two clubs are in negotiations to finalise a blockbuster deal.
Leipzig had been resistant to selling the Croatia central defender but he has told them of a desire to leave for the Treble winners this summer.
The Bundesliga side want £86million plus additional clauses for Gvardiol, regarded as one of the best young talents in Europe.
Pep Guardiola had earmarked Gvardiol as the man to target as City look to strengthen after their greatest-ever season.
‘We are in talks with Man City,’ Leipzig’s Max Eberl said. ‘For €100m plus add ons, Josko will end up in Pep’s strong hands. This would make Gvardiol the most expensive defender in history.

‘I can confirm that Josko Gvardiol and his agents told us about their desire to move to Man City.’
Gvardiol operates in a similar position to Aymeric Laporte, who could leave the club over the coming weeks, although City have yet to field an official offer for the Spaniard.
