The search for a new striker at Bayern Munich took another twist in the last couple of weeks. The Bavarian club has identified Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane as the top target for the number nine position. After seeing the first bid rejected three weeks ago, Die Roten lodged a second bid for the English striker over the past couple of days.
Die Roten’s second bid for Kane was more than £70 million, including add-ons (€82 million). Spurs have rejected this bid instantly as they continue to insist that Kane is not for sale in the current summer transfer window. However, one English media outlet on Monday reported another key aspect of Bayern’s pursuit of Kane.
According to Daily Mail, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will only entertain offers worth £120 million (€140 million) for Kane. Die Roten is optimistic about negotiating a fee lower than this value since Kane can leave for nothing next summer.
The report from Daily Mail also suggests that Bayern may find it difficult to pay £100 million for the English forward. Die Roten’s technical director Marco Neppe believes that Kane is eager to join the Bavarian club after holding positive talks with the English striker.
Bayern will now be in a dilemma whether to continue the pursuit of signing Kane. The record Bundesliga champions will have to play the waiting game to see if Spurs will blink first. The report in Mail also suggests that Die Roten will stop the bidding for Kane this summer and return for him in January if remains keen on a move to Bavaria.
Rekordmeister finds themselves in a tricky position regarding Kane. The market for top-quality strikers is difficult and complex. Kane is one of the best strikers in the world that can take Die Roten to the next level in the Champions League. However, they may have to wait a few more months or one more season to sign him on a lower fee or free transfer.
It does look like Harry Kane is not going to kick up the fuss at Spurs to force a transfer this summer. The English striker will report for first-team training later this week. Kane is set to hold talks with new Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou regarding his future. Spurs have also offered Kane a new contract, but he is not keen on signing it while the transfer window is open.

Spurs have previously sold star players late in the transfer window after long-drawn sagas (Luka Modric and Gareth Bale). In both scenarios, both players moved outside Premier League. Die Roten will hope for a similar outcome in the case of Kane.
