News of Bayern Munich’s second bid for Tottenham hitman Harry Kane is once again the Bundesliga’s main story going into the new week. If it gets confirmed in time, he’ll be one of DDie Roten’s best British players on paper at least.
Kane’s arrival would see Bayern join in with the trend of English talents joining the Bundesliga, which has enjoyed a revival over the past several years. The shining example of recent times, of course, is the arrival of Jude Bellingham at Dortmund in 2020 – and his subsequent sale to Real Madrid last month after flourishing in the German top flight.
That hasn’t been a ‘trend’ for Bayern Munich themselves though – not for a long while anyway. Kane is a much more proven talent than Bellingham. He is England’s all-time top scorer and one of the most prolific goalscorers in Premier League history. Kane scored 30 league goals in a poor Spurs side last season.
Apart from a forgettable stint of just for free signing Omar Richards in 2021/22, Die Roten has largely shied away from taking in British talent so far this century. Nonetheless, three such players before Richards are also part of Bayern’s history. But how do they compare to Kane?
