It’s looking likelier and likelier that Dean Henderson will never pull on a Man United shirt again.
Manchester United signed Andre Onana earlier on in the window, to replace David de Gea in that starting role at Old Trafford.
There’s still some discussion about the back-up goalkeeper position. Tom Heaton has looked decent enough during pre-season, though people are crying for Dean Henderson to be given his chance.
Well, according to the Manchester Evening News, it’s just a matter of time before the Englishman departs. They state that the 26-year-old United player is ‘not likely’ to play for the club again.
There’s a ‘sense’ he will be sold to fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest, even if the initial agreement is a loan with an obligation to buy.
Henderson is talented. There’s no getting away from that. The Englishman has displayed the ability to play the goalkeeper position at a high level, though whether he has what it takes to become the number one at Old Trafford is a different kettle of fish.
The Nottingham Forest rumours have been pretty common over the last couple of weeks. And it’s a deal that does make sense given how well Hendo did there in the first half of last season – before picking up an injury.
If United can get some sort of semi-decent transfer fee for Hendo, while putting further trust in Heaton, it could make sense. It’d also bolster the transfer budget available at Ten Hag’s disposal.
Let’s hope a deal can be reached sooner rather than later, as United do not want this transfer saga to take focus away from other potential deals as we gear up to the last month of the window.
