Chelsea are on the hunt for a new striker in 2024 and if there is the right profile and opportunity available next month, they will look to bring one in then.
Neither Armando Broja or Nicolas Jackson have really stepped up to the mark so far this season to prove they can be the main man up top, and Chelsea are certainly lacking a bit of extra firepower and a natural goalscoring number 9 anyway. They will also be losing Jackson to AFCON for a month early next year.
EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea add two new Premier League centre-backs to January shortlist!
Make no mistake, Chelsea need a striker in January in my opinion, but will they be able to get one and will there be a chance to get one?
Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting is the latest name to be linked, as I exclusively revealed on my Substack site last Sunday. Other outlets have since reported our interest.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has written about Gyokeres for GIVEMESPORT this week, and he says Chelsea will have to trigger his £86m release clause if they want to sign him this winter.
Jacobs said: “Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres has also been scouted. He’s an expensive January option because Ruben Amorim has told his board in no uncertain terms he doesn’t want a January exit. Sporting’s position is that Gyokeres’ €100m (£86m) release clause must be met or bettered otherwise they won’t sell a player who only joined over the summer. Roony Bardghji and Antonio Nusa are two other possibilities. Chelsea had also internally discussed Ollie Watkins prior to him signing a new contract. Like Toney, he’s an older profile than the club have gone for to date under Clearlake-Boehly.”
