Chelsea were very poor against Sheffield United yesterday, especially in the first half, but one man, as ever, did his best to make up for his teammates.
The Blues were largely unable to construct any dangerous attacks, and their slow passing kept allowing the Blades to form a solid back line. Our best chances in that first period came through Conor Gallagher, whose tackling and intercepting would catch the opposition out and get Chelsea the ball high up the pitch before Sheffield United could reset.
He played a vital role in the win once again, and it was very interesting to hear what the captain had made of the team’s performance:
“[A win] feels really good! I think it was really important coming into the game to get the three points and to show a good performance,” Gallagher told the club’s official website after the game.
“We did that and hopefully the victory now will give us the confidence to build on going forward. We had to be patient to get that breakthrough and I think you have to give credit to the opposition.
“Sheffield United made it tough for us and they were really solid defensively, especially in the first half. There have been many games like that this season, where we’ve struggled to break teams down so we had to remain patient.
“Once we got the goal, I think we were in control from that point and in the end I’d consider it a really professional performance.”
Here’s to many more wins, and many more impressive Conor showings in the middle of the park. Week after week he makes the idea of selling him look sillier and sillier.
