Chelsea have invited the mascot from a now infamous mix up at Anfield to come to training to meet the team.
A viral video filmed from the stands last week captured the moment the youngster was left alone by Chelsea players following the pre-match photo. They all ran off to get into position and warm up, but the kid was left with nobody to help him, looking sad and frightened and alone on the pitch in a rowdy Anfield atmosphere.
The irony was not lost on people that it was “You’ll Never Walk Alone” ringing around the stadium as the lost child walked alone. The Chelsea team who were too focused on themselves to notice then went out and got beaten 4-1, which hardly helped the feelings towards them.
Inviting him to meet the team is a good way of turning around the PR disaster and making it into something positive. Nizaar Kinsella says he will meet the players, watch training and get a signed shirt – as well as the chance to be a mascot again in the future.
