Chelsea have a clause which enables them to match any bid for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi which could scupper Liverpool’s reported interest.
The Reds as well as Chelsea will likely be looking for defensive reinforcements in the summer.
With Thiago Silva set to leave at the end of the season when his contract expires and the future of Trevoh Chalobah uncertain, the Blues will be looking to sign a replacement for the veteran Brazilian.
The London club are unlikely to be able to offer Champions League football which Liverpool will be able to do and potentially Manchester United.
According to The Daily Telegraph Liverpool want to sign England International Guehi as part of a defensive rebuild with Manchester United also monitoring the centre back.
However, Chelsea could hijack any potential deal and while the Stamford Bridge outfit aren’t believed to have a direct buy back clause they do have a sell on clause and an option to match any bid should they decide to enter the race for the 23 year old.
Despite coming through the academy at Chelsea, Guehi only made two appearances for the club which both came in the league cup during the 2019/2020 season.
The Crystal Palace captain has shone since leaving Chelsea and has made 105 appearances for Palace scoring five goals and providing two assists.
Guehi is under contract at Crystal Palace until 2026 and the Chelsea academy graduate joined The Eagles for £18m back in 2021.
The Blues also retain an interest in Guehi’s team mate Michael Olise who they bid for last summer.
