Mauricio Pochettino has heaped more praise on Conor Gallagher after his match winning performance in the FA Cup last night.
Chelsea advanced to the quarter finals where they will host Leicester City at Stamford Bridge thanks to a nervy 3-2 win.
Mateo Joseph’s brace either side of goals from Nicolas Jackson and Mykhailo Mudryk left the game level at 2-2 going into the closing stages with extra time looming again.
However, Gallagher came off the bench and made sure that didn’t happen as he scored a last minute winner to put the disappointment of those missed chances in the Carabao cup final behind him.
Pochettino was very positive about the 24 year old and when asked about his importance in his post match press conference he said via Football London: “Yeah, of course, he is an important player and there is no doubt.”
“We were talking at the beginning of the season, the contribution was fantastic for the team. I’m so happy for him.”
“I said okay, don’t become top scorer, don’t score too much goals (smiles). But the effort is there and the quality is there.”
Gallagher has established himself as a key player for the Argentine and has popped up with several crucial goals this season including last minute winners against Crystal Palace and Leeds.
The England international is facing an uncertain future at the London club with his current contract expiring in 2025 and no signs of a new deal currently.
The midfielder has made it very clear that he wishes to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.
