Some transfer rumours go around and around without going anywhere, so we’re always interested to hear about fresh names.
Giorgio Scalvini is a name we haven’t heard connected to Chelsea before, but a CalcioMercato report released today claims that he’s a target for Manchester United – and that the Blues are also monitoring him.
A price tag of around €50m is cited, which would be a bargain if he ends up being half as good as he looks.
The young central defender would fit perfectly into Chelsea’s transfer policy if they can get him near that price – although getting into a bidding war with Manchester United is a sure way of sending that cost spiralling.
We’re in an odd place at centre back right now – we’ve got a lot of them, but nobody is really convinced by the quality of any of them. If Thiago Silva and Trevoh Chalobah both leave in the summer, there could yet be space for Scalvini.
