Mauricio Pochettino’s press conference just now had some interesting team news, and one thing asked of the coach was who would start in goal.
Robert Sanchez’s injury opened the door for Djordje Petrovic, who has done really well in the Spaniard’s absence.
Sanchez came back in for the FA Cup game on Wednesday however, raising some questions about who will be the true number one.
Pochettino says he has already decided, and that the players know, but he didn’t give the media the answer:
“I don’t know to tell or not to tell [you]. They [Petrovic and Sanchez] already know.”
Chelsea fans almost universally want to see Petrovic starting, and there’s almost no reason why he wouldn’t. The only reason we can think of would be that those upstairs have given Pochettino the party line that Sanchez has to play as he was the bigger investment. But that would be so counter productive that we can’t see it happening.
Surely the sporting directors aren’t that short sighted?
