Mauricio Pochettino has said he knows his place when asked if he should have more control over transfers amid continuous speculation over the future of Conor Gallagher.
Gallagher only has 14 months remaining on his current contract and with seemingly no significant progress over a new deal has been the subject of a lot of speculation.
The 24 year old scored a last minute winner against Leeds on Wednesday night and has four goals in his last five games.
The England international has established himself as a key player under Pochettino this season and has worn the captains armband on several occasions in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell.
When asked if he should have more influence on transfers the Argentine was reluctant to respond and in quotes picked up by The Standard said : “I am the coach, that needs to be my place.”
On Gallagher specifically the 51 year added: “I cannot be involved in this. It’s only between the club and Conor that can make the deal.”
Pressed on why he can’t be more involved, he added: “I know my place.”
The former Paris Saint Germain manager answered “no comment” when asked if his opinion should be heard in this situation.
Pochettino was pressed on his unwillingness to answer and responded: “Because there is nothing to win for me. What am I going to say? I am the head coach.”
