Glenn Hoddle has backed Chelsea target Victor Osimhen to thrive in England if he joins a Premier League club this summer.
Osimhen was unable to prevent his Napoli side from Champions League elimination on Tuesday night against Barcelona.
The Nigerian is likely to be the most sought after striker this summer and has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge to solve Chelsea’s goal scoring issues.
The 25 year old has scored 13 goals in 24 appearances for Napoli this season and is widely expected to leave the club at the end of the season having signed a contract extension until 2026 last December with a release clause of around £112m.
Former Chelsea manager Hoddle believes the Nigerian international is perfectly suited to the Premier League and speaking on TNT Sports said: “He’s a Premier League player looking at him, the style of him as well. But he’s got his hunger back. That’s the main thing. I think now he’s back to his best.”
“He’s got the hunger, the movement, he wants to score goals. That’s the big difference, the mindset.”
Given the Blues are highly unlikely to be playing Champions League football next season it would be a real coup if they could somehow pull off the signing of Osimhen.
Any move for the Napoli man will likely have to be funded by the sale of a number of academy graduates as well as the Blues having to break their wage structure.
