Enzo Fernandez is suspended for Sunday’s game against Leicester City, but rather than being disappointed, Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that there are alternatives available.
“We have players to replace him,” the coach said in his press conference today, rather giving the opposite answer to the ones we usually get as he bemoans holes in his squad. Carney Chukwuemeka came on as a sub on Monday, as did Cesare Casadei, and they look like good options. Alternatively, we could see Cole Palmer drop deeper with another attacker coming in to the team.
It’s a shame, as we had just started to see some chemistry between Enzo and Moises Caicedo develop in the middle on the pitch. But equally Enzo has played a crazy amount already this season, and an enforced break, followed by an international period which hopefully doesn’t see him stretched too far, can be a good thing too.
As long as Argentina don’t play him for both of their games later this month, we should see a relatively fresh Enzo as we head into the crucial games in April.
