Ashley Young blasted Manchester United for their ‘shambolic’ defending for Crystal Palace‘s first goal at Selhurst Park on Monday night.
Michael Olise showed excellent skill to put Palace in the lead in the 12th minute but Young was alarmed by the amount of space that United afforded him.
Speaking on Sky Sports, ex-United player Young said: ‘You look at the first goal, it’s crazy the way they’re set up. Palace have got a throw-in in their own half.
‘It’s just one run from Olise he sees the space and just runs into it. It’s shambolic, Casemiro I don’t know what he’s thinking, Olise sees he’s going to make a challenge, he just walks past him, it’s so easy.’
Carragher claimed that Casemiro, who was playing out of position at centre-back, should have been substituted at half time.

Former United player Young was heavily critical of how Erik ten Hag’s team defended
Carragher claimed that Casemiro’s struggles weren’t due to him playing out of position.
Carragher said: ‘This has got nothing to do with playing out of position. That is embarrassing.
‘He needs to come off the pitch. Nothing is worse than Casemiro at centre-back.
‘Put Wan-Bissaka in the middle and put someone at full-back.’
Jamie Carragher called for Casemiro to be substituted at half time after his struggles
Former Liverpool defender Carragher added that it was sad to see the decline of Casemiro.
He said: ‘They were comical, it was embarrassing. Casemiro, It’s sad to see a great player performing like this. What he’s achieved in the game, but he’s miles away from it.’
Matters got even worse for United, with Jean-Philippe Mateta doubling Palace’s lead before half-time.
Tyrick Mitchell and a second goal by Olise saw the Eagles run out as comfortable 4-0 winners.
It has been a frustrating league campaign for United, who have lacked consistency throughout.
Erik ten Hag has often found his options limited, especially at centre-back, but the performances of some of his players will still undoubtedly have infuriated his manager.
