Dutch coach Arne Slot is all set to take the reins from Jurgen Klopp to become the new Liverpool manager. The club is backing the Dutchman, and it will likely let him have his ways in the upcoming transfer window.
The Reds aim to strengthen their unit, with a winger being a priority. They want a winger due to the fact that their star Mohamed Salah might be leaving the club. The Egyptian international has been crucial for Liverpool. The Reds turned down £150m from Al-Ittihad for their winger.
Now, Al-Ittihad offers £100m with add-ons. The Reds say Salah is not for sale, and he wants to stay one more year. But they might think it over since Salah’s contract has two years left. So, the Reds’ Football CEO is making a list to replace the 31-year-old winger.
One name comes up often, and that’s West Ham star, Jarrod Bowen. The England player has had a great run, scoring 16 goals in 34 Premier League games. This makes him the ninth top scorer in the league. The Reds have been eyeing Bowen for a while, but taking him from West Ham won’t be easy.
Leaving Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp praised Bowen in an interview last December. He said, “Bowen is probably my favorite player beside all my players. It’s great what he’s doing, how he developed.”
But Bowen signed a new contract with the London Stadium last October that runs until 2027. As such, West Ham is expected to demand a huge sum of money for his signature.
Reports claim that West Ham is aware of the interest from Liverpool and would only entertain offers of around £100 million. West Ham risks losing another star player in Lucas Paqueta, who is a prime target for Manchester City. Selling them both in the same window would be a huge call.
Julen Lopetegui is set to replace David Moyes as the Hammers boss at the end of this season. He would definitely have a say in any potential exits. Liverpool was recently linked with a surprise swoop for former Everton star Anthony Gordon.
But former Reds player John Aldridge believes Slot and his men should make signing Bowen a priority. Aldridge told the Liverpool ECHO, “Do we need a new striker? I presume, and it is only me presuming, that the club will have to let Mohamed Salah go because of financial reasons.” He added that he does not think they can get Watkins because Villa is just about in the Champions League now, and they are going to keep their players. However, Bowen would fit the bill for him.
