Leeds United are set to name Liverpool’s Martin Diggle as their new academy manager.
Diggle has agreed to join Leeds and will complete the switch in the coming weeks, leaving his role as head of coach development at Anfield.
Leeds have been without a designated academy manager since former long-term incumbent Adam Underwood moved into a different role as head of football operations following the takeover of the club by 49ers Enterprises last summer.
Underwood ran the academy for almost nine years and had a big hand in securing it category one status under the Premier League’s Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP).
Diggle has been with Liverpool since 2019, with a focus on supporting and developing academy coaching staff there. He held previous roles with Bolton Wanderers and the Football Association, which employed him in a range of jobs including head of professional game coach development.
Leeds have undergone major structural change internally since 49ers Enterprises sealed a 100 per cent buy-out of former owner Andrea Radrizzani.
Additional moves have been made in recent weeks, with Scott Garnder taking over as Under-21s coach on a full-time basis from Michael Skubala, ex-Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing arriving as Gardner’s assistant and Jordan Miles coming in from Aberdeen to take up a role as head of recruitment.
