Due to some travel, it has been a few weeks since we last visited Bayern Munich’s loanees. Since then, we have seen multiple titles clinched, a second Bayern loanee finish above them in the table, and Stanišić keeping the Neverlusen magic alive. Some of these entries are a little long-winded, as some of the loanees played three or more games in the time since last writing. My apologies in advance. See what the loanees did during the Final Countdown (in Europe, not by Europe)
FC Bayern Munich
There are eight players on loan from the first team.
Germany – Bundesliga
There are two players on loan in the German Bundesliga: Alexander Nübel and Josip Stanišić.
Alexander Nübel – VfB Stuttgart
Nübel was in goal against Bayern on Saturday, May 4, and for the second time in this Rückrunde, a Bayern loanee beats his parent club. In typical Nübel fashion, he only needed to record two saves and did not get the shutout, but it was enough to get the job done. No matter the performance, a win against Bayern will make the Bayern execs think.
After defeating Bayern, Nübel and Stuttgart surged to two final shutout wins to overtake Bayern in second place. He only needed one save to beat Augsburg 1-0. His services were required more in the 4-0 win over Mönchengladbach where he recorded five saves in that shutout.
The second place finish leaves the door open for Stuttgart to compete in the DFL-Supercup this summer if Leverkusen completes the domestic double.
Josip Stanišić – Bayer O4 Leverkusen
Leverkusen got back to winning ways after drawing three matches in a row in all competitions when they faced AS Roma in Italy in the Europa League semi-finals. Stanišić started and played the full 90 minutes. His biggest contribution came in the form of an assist on the second goal of the evening. He also helped on defense by recording three recoveries, two interceptions, and four recoveries. Leverkusen won the first leg 2-0. Stanišić got a break in the 5-1 league win over Eintracht Frankfurt that weekend. He was on the bench as an unused sub.
Stanišić started on the bench again in the second leg against AS Roma. Leverkusen was down 2-0 (2-2 aggregate) until a Roma own goal in the 82nd minute gave Leverkusen hope of continuing their historic unbeaten run. The Bayern loanee came off the bench in the 90th minute. In true Neverlusen fashion, Stanišić scored the equalizer in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
Stanišić was back in the starting lineup for Leverkusen’s final road match of the season. He earned man-of-the-match honors, recording a goal and and an assist on just one shot. He also completed 94% of his passes. Leverkusen cruised to a 5-0 win. In the final matchday, Stanišić was on the bench, but got into the match in the 82nd minute. He was not able to influence the match much, but did not really need to either. Leverkusen beat Augsburg to cap of the first undefeated Bundesliga season on 90 points.
Leverkusen still have a huge week coming up. On Wednesday, the face Atalanta in the Europa League final in Dublin, Ireland. They will also face Kaiserslautern in the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin on Saturday.
Netherlands – Eredivisie
Malik Tillman is the only player on loan in the Eredivisie.
Malik Tillman – PSV Eindhoven
Tillman started and played the full 90 minutes for PSV against Sparta Rotterdam. He did not contribute much to the match except a chance created, three recoveries, and an 89% pass completion rate. PSV won 4-2 and officially clinched the Eredivisie title.
Tillman started in PSV’s penultimate match — on the road to Fortuna Sittard — and played the full 90 minutes. He had a shot that required a save and created a chance for his teammates to shoot. He recorded two clearances and six recoveries. They drew 1-1.
PSV hosted RKC Waalwijk for the final match of the season. Tillman started and played 69 minutes. He was very busy in the attack: creating a chance, completing 85% of his passes, and shooting five times — three shots on goal and two that just missed. Unfortunately, there was nothing to show for his efforts, but PSV won 3-1 to end their title-winning season on a high note.
Croatia – HNL
Gabriel Vidović is the only player on loan to the Croatian HNL.
Gabriel Vidović – Dinamo Zagreb
Vidović started for Zagreb against Rijeka — whom they just overtook the week prior for top of the table — in a pivotal match for the league title. He did not contribute anything in the attack, but helped on defense with a clearance and three recoveries. He was subbed out in the 70th minute with his team up 1-0. Zagreb bagged another goal and won 2-0.
The next week, Vidović started again against Osijek at home. He only played the first half, but was more productive in the attack. He completed 100% of his passes and had two shots. He was also credited with missing a big chance. The match was level at 0-0 at halftime when Vidović came off. Zagreb scored a second-half winner and won 1-0, clinching the Croatian league title with two matches to go.
On Wednesday, Zagreb hosted Rijeka in the first leg of the Croatian Cup. Vidovic started on the bench and came into the match in the 63rd minute. The match ended 0-0 and will come down to the second leg next week.
On Sunday, Zagreb was on the road against Slaven for their penultimate league match. Vidović started again and again only played in the first half. He had a shot on goal, a created chance, and completed 92% of his passes. They were down 1-0 at halftime when Vidovic departed, but came back to win 3-2.
Zagreb will travel to face Rijeka in the second leg of the Cup final on Wednesday. They will also finish their season off with a home league match against Rudes.
Italy – Serie A
Arijon Ibrahimović is the only player on loan to Serie A
Arijon Ibrahimović – Frosinone Calcio
Ibrahimović did not start against Empoli on May 5, but came into the match very late in the match. He was not on the pitch long enough to even record a touch or a pass. The match ended 0-0. Frosinone was also on the bench the next week against Inter Milan. They were already down 4-0 before he came into the match in the 82nd minute. He registered a touch this time — eight of them, in fact. He was unable to help his team create anything, but saw Inter add a fifth. Ibrahimovic did not appear in Frosinone’s 1-0 win on Sunday.
Frosinone are two points clear of the relegation zone going into the final match of the season next week. A win would guarantee safety, but there is a chance they could survive with a draw or even a loss. They face Udinese on Sunday.
Austria – Bundesliga
Frans Krätzig is the only player from the first team on loan to the Austrian Bundesliga.
Frans Krätzig – Austria Wien
Krätzig started for Wien against Lustenau and played the full 90 minutes. He did not have a shot, but created two chances for his teammates to shoot. He also recorded a clearance, an interception, and nine recoveries. However, his fellow Bayern loanee’s team got the better of Austria Wien. Krätzig started again for Wien against Wolfsberger AC the next week. Even though he had more created chances and had a shot, but Austria Wien lost 4-0!
Austria Wien got back to winning ways against BW Linz. Krätzig started and was once again active in trying to get his teams chances to shoot. He recorded three chances created and had a shot of his own from outside the box.
Austria Wien will face Wolfsberger AC on the road on Tuesday in their final match.
Germany – 2. Bundesliga
Paul Wanner is the only player from the first team on loan to the 2. Bundesliga
Paul Wanner – SV 07 Elversberg
Wanner started for Elversberg when they hosted Hertha BSC. Wanner assisted a go-ahead goal to make it 2-1. Hertha equalized again in the 62nd minute, but Wanner had another say in the matter. With his first shot of the match, he scored the winning goal in the 65th minute. Elversberg grabbed another goal and won 4-2.
Wanner started on the road against Nürnberg, but only played 58 minutes. He was not as prolific as the last match. He only had one shot which was terribly off target. Elversberg fell 3-0 on the road. Wanner had a similar performance in the final match of the season on Sunday against Karlsruher SC. This time, he had two shots — one on target and one that went way over. He also had a chance created and made it 61 minutes this time. However, the result was the same as the week before and Elversberg fell 3-0 again to finish their season.
Germany – 3. Liga
Johannes Schenk is the only player on loan from the first team in the 3. Liga.
Johannes Schenk – Preußen Münster
Schenk was on the bench as the backup keeper for the last three matches, but did not get into the matches. They won two of the final three games, but a win over Saarbrücken was enough for them to clinch promotion to the 2. Bundesliga with two matches to go.
FC Bayern Munich II
There are 17 players on loan from the second team.
Germany – 2. Bundesliga
Four players are on loan in Germany’s 2. Bundesliga: Jamie Lawrence, Hyun-ju Lee, Yusuf Kabadayi, and David Herold.
Jamie Lawrence – 1. FC Magdeburg
Lawrence sat on the bench for the final three weeks, but never even came into the matches as an unused substitute. Magdeburg only barely survived in the 2. Bundesliga after going getting a point from these three games after a 4-1 loss to Kaiserslautern, a 0-0 draw against Greuther Fürth, and a 3-2 loss against Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Hyun-ju Lee – SV Wehen Wiesbaden
Lee’s Wiesbaden had a similar stretch over these last three weeks. He started and played 72 minutes when they lost 1-0 to Holstein Kiel. He had no shots, but only misplayed two passes. Lee was on the bench to start the 1-0 loss to Eintracht Braunschweig, but came into the match and almost leveled the match with a shot from outside the box, which hit the post. Lee also started on the bench for Wiesbaden’s final match against St. Pauli. They needed a win to just guarantee 16th place and the relegation playoff spot. They took the lead in the first half, but conceded two goals in the second half to lose. The win gave St. Pauli the league championship.
Luckily for Wiesbaden, Hansa Rostock also lost, and they get to stay in the play-off spot, rather than being directly relegated. They will face Jahn Regensburg in a two-legged playoff for the final spot in next season’s 2. Bundesliga.
Yusuf Kabadayi – Schalke 04
At one point not so long ago, we thought that Schalke might be in danger of being relegated, which would have sent them to the fourth division because of financial struggles. Luckily, a change of form prevented that. Kabadayi featured in each of the last three matches for Schalke, but never played the full 90 minutes. He started and played 63 minutes in a 4-0 win over Osnabrück, came off the bench in the 82nd minute of a 2-1 win over Hansa Rostock, and started and played 64 minutes in a 2-0 loss to Greuther Fürth to end the season. Each time he was on the field he provided one or two shot attempts and more importantly tracked back to help on defense.
David Herold – Karlsruher SC
Herold’s season ended early when he picked up an ankle injury in April. He has not played in over a month, and was able to feature in any of KSC’s final three matches, where they beat Rostock 2-1, lost to Hannover 2-1, and beat Wanner’s Elversberg 3-0. This late run of results put them in fifth place to finish the season.
Germany – 3. Liga
Lukas Schneller is the only player on loan to Germany’s 3. Liga from the second team.
Lucas Schneller – SC Freiburg II
Schneller was the backup keeper for the last three matches — as he has been for most of the season. Although Freiburg II were long ago relegated to the fourth division, they won two of three to end the season.
Germany – Regionalliga
Jakob Mayer is the only player on loan to a Regionalliga team.
Jakob Mayer – FC 08 Homburg
Homburg won two of the last three games, and Mayer was in goal for one of the wins. They lost to 2-1 with Mainz II with Mayer in goal, but bounced back for a 2-1 win over TSV Steinbach. Mayer was on the bench as the backup keeper for the season finale, when Homburg beat Stuttgarter Kickers 3-0, preventing them from winning the Regionalliga Southwest, and giving the title (and promotion) to VfB Stuttgart II.
Homburg still have one match left — the Saarland Cup final. They will take on Saarbrücken on Saturday with a berth into the DFB-Pokal on the line.
Austria – Bundesliga
There are two players on loan to the Austrian Bundesliga: Torben Rhein and Angelo Brückner
Torben Rhein – SC Austria Lustenau
Rhein was on the bench to start the match against Krätzig’s Austria Wien, but would make onto the pitch in the first half as the second of two first-half subs. He had four shots on the day — two blocked, one that missed from short range, and one on target from outside the box. He also had a clearance, an interception, and three recoveries. The 2-0 win saved Lustenau from relegation for at least another week.
Rhein started on the bench for their match against BW Linz. He came into the match up 1-0 in the 80th minute and only had four touches, but helped see out the win. Unfortunately the dream of surviving in the Bundesliga did not work out. Lustenau drew 2-2 in their final match, but Rhein was not even in the matchday squad.
Angelo Brückner – TSV Hartberg
Brückner was on the bench for Hartberg’s 1-1 draw against league leaders Sturm Graz. He did not make it onto the pitch. He came off the bench in the 72nd minute against Red Bull Salzburg, but his team was already down 4-1. He did not really have a chance to help his team get anything going and they fell 5-1. Hertberg finished off the season with a 3-0 road win over Rapid Wien. Brückner was again on the bench to start, but came into the match in the 90th minute up 2-0. He got the assist on the third and final goal to go out on a high note.
Austria – 2. Liga
There are six players on loan in Austria’s 2. Liga: Luka Parkadze, Shaoziyang Liu, Lenn Jastremski, Benjamin Dibrani, Barry Hepburn, and Leon Fust.
Luka Parkadze – FC Admira Wacker
Parkadze was not on the matchday squad for Admira’s most recent matches — nor has he been since September…
Admira won two and lost one of the last three. They host First Vienna on Monday before finishing the season on the road to SW Bregenz.
Shaoziyang Liu – SV Ried
Liu was also absent from Ried’s matchday squad for the last three matches.
Ried also won two and lost one of their final three matches. They will be on the road against SV Lafnitz on Monday and then finish the season at home against Dornbirn on Saturday.
Lenn Jastremski – Grazer AK
Jastremski came off the bench in the 64th minute of a scoreless game against Admira. He scored the only goal of the match 20 minutes later to secure a 1-0 win. He started and played all 90 minutes of a 1-1 draw against SV Horn. On Friday, Jastremski started again against SV Stripfing. With the match level at 1-1, Jastremski scored two goals in three minutes on the way to GAK opening a 4-1 halftime lead. Jastremski also assisted their fifth goal in the second half, shortly before coming off in the 70th minute.
Grazer AK have long been champions of the 2. Liga and will be playing in the top flight next season. They will finish the season on the road to Florisdorfer AC on Monday and then at home against Kapfenberger SV on Saturday.
Benjamin Dibrani – SW Bregenz
Bregenz continues their dangerous freefall in the 2. Liga. Dibrani started against SV Horn and played the full 90 minutes, started and played the first half against SV Stripfing, and came off the bench for just 28 minutes against Leoben. All three games were shutout losses. In fact, Bregenz has not scored since a 3-3 draw on April 6. They have not won since March 2. They sit just two points out of the relegation zone. Regular readers of this series may remember in the fall and early winter, when Bregenz were consistently in second place. After being recently promoted from the third division, nobody thought second place would be sustainable, but I do not think anyone saw this coming either.
Bregenz will finish their season away to St. Pölten on Monday and at home to Admira on Saturday. You have to imagine they will need some sort of points to stay in the 2. Liga.
Barry Hepburn – DSV Leoben
Hepburn was not on the matchday squad for a scoreless draw against St. Pölten. He came onto the pitch in the 67th minute, already down 2-0 against Admira. He could not help his team comeback and they fell by that scoreline. Hepburn then watched his side beat Dibrani’s Bregenz 2-0 from the bench, but never made it onto the field.
Leoben will be on the road to Dornbirn on Monday before hosting Sturm Graz II in the finale on Saturday.
Leon Fust – SKU Amstetten
Fust started for the already-relegated Amstetten against Florisdorfer AC, but only played 65 minutes. He started the next two games and played the full 90 minutes. A 4-2 loss against Kapfenberger SV — a game in which they saw a 2-0 lead evaporate after going down a man in the first half. They also had a 1-1 draw with FC Liefering.
Amstetten will finish this stint in the 2. Liga with a home game against SV Horn on Monday and a trip to the capital to face First Vienna on Saturday.
Switzerland – Super League
Justin Janitzek is the only player on loan in the Swiss Super League.
Justin Janitzek – FC St. Gallen 1879
Janitzek was not the matchday squad — nor the injury report — for any of the last three matches. St. Gallen went 1-1-1 in that stretch and sit in fifth place with two matches left. They are level in points with fourth place FC Zürich and a potential European place, but trail on goal differential.
St, Gallen will be on the road to face Winterthur on Monday and the finish the season with a home game against FC Zürich on Saturday.
England – League One
Liam Morrison is the only player on loan in the English League One.
Liam Morrison – Wigan Athletic
Wigan’s season ended in April.
Portugal – Liga Potugal
Taichi Fukui is the only player on loan in Liga Portugal.
Taichi Fukui – Portimonense
Fukui started each of the final three games of the season. He only played 59 minutes in a 3-0 loss to Sporting, played the full 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw against Rio Ave, and played 89 minutes in a 3-1 road win against Farense on the final day. Fukui was unable to pick up a goal or an assist in the final three games, but contributed fairly well in all three games.
The results left Portimonense in 16th place — the relegation playoff spot — level on points with 15th place, but behind on goal differential. They will have to face the third place team from the second league — AVS Futebol SAD — in order to remain in the top flight next season.
FC Bayern Frauen
There are five players on loan from FC Bayern’s Frauen team.
Germany – Frauen Bundesliga
Four players on loan are playing in the Frauen-Bundesliga: Emilie Bragstad, Karolina Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir, Natalia Padilla, and Julia Landenberger.
Emilie Bragstad – Bayer 04 Leverkusen
Bragstad started for Leverkusen against her parent club on May 4 and played the full 90 minutes. She filled the stat sheet on the defensive side, but it was not enough to keep Bayern from clinching the league with a 2-1 defeat.
Bragstad bounced back against MSV Duisburg with a great defensive performance. She had a blocked shot, two clearances, an interception, and four recoveries. This helped Leverkusen hold the already-relegated Duisburg to just one goal.
Karolina Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir– Bayer 04 Leverkusen
Vilhjálmsdóttir also started against Bayern. She had a shot, that was off target, but was not really able to get into the match. She was subbed off in the 79th minute after only completing 61% of her passes.
Vilhjálmsdóttir also started again against Duisburg, but had a much better game. She had two shots — one on target and one blocked — completed 84% of her passes, and had a created chance, which ended as an assist on one of Leverkusen’s three goals. They won 3-1.
Leverkusen will finish their season on Monday with a home match against Werder Bremen.
Natalia Padilla– 1. FC Köln
Padilla came onto the field against Wolfsburg in the 57th minute, but her team was already down 4-1. She was not able to get anything going and Wolfsburg added a fifth goal. The match ended 5-1.
Last Saturday, Padilla came into the match at halftime down 2-0 at SGS Essen. She scored a goal in the 54th, but she nor her teammates could find an equalizer. The fell 2-1. However, some good news from that weekend, was that Bayern’s win over Nürnberg meant Köln would remain in the Frauen-Bundesliga next season — unlike their male counterparts.
Köln’s final match will be at home Monday against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Julia Landenberger – RB Leipzig
Landenberger filled in the stat sheet on defense in shutout win against Nürnberg. She had four clearances, two interceptions, and six recoveries. This helped Leipzig earn a shutout and a 1-0 win. Landenberger was even busier in Leipzig’s final home game against Hoffenheim. She saved a shot off the line and blocked another. She also had an interception and six recoveries. This also helped keep a shutout, but the attack was able to win it 3-0.
Leipzig will finish their season on Monday on the road against SC Freiburg.
Sweden – Damallsvenskan
Momoko Tanikawa is the only player on loan to the Swedish Damallsvenskan.
Momoko Tanikawa – FC Rosengård
Tanikawa continues to kill it in Sweden. Through the first six games, she has scored at least one goal in each and added a second goal once, bringing her early goal tally to seven. Rosengård remains perfect, taking 18 points from six games. They also have a +20 goal differential already and have only conceded two.
They will face the only other perfect team — Hammarby IF — on the road on Monday. They will also host Pitea IF on Sunday.
