Most of the focus at Bayern Munich right is justifiably on the search for a new manager after Thomas Tuchel made it clear he will now be leaving the club now that the season has concluded. With the number of candidates that were rejecting the club, the idea was sprung to try have Tuchel stay on for next season and beyond, but Tuchel ultimately decided he wanted to stick with the mutual decision that was made earlier to part ways with the club and presumably head back to the Premier League in England.
While the search for a Tuchel replacement continues, sporting director Christoph Freund has also promised that the club will be active in the transfer market during the summer transfer window. In addition to a new manager, there are several positions the club would like to address and Freund, along with board member for sport Max Eberl, is chiefly responsible for spearheading those recruitment efforts.
Per information from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern is interested in trying to sign RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons. It is reported that Eberl is a big supporter of the 21-year old playmaker for Die Roten Bullen, but it could prove to be rather difficult for the Rekordmeister to try to pull off a move for the Dutch starlet. He spent the 2023/24 season at Leipzig on loan from parent club Paris Saint-Germain, but the player himself has no plans on staying with the reigning Ligue 1 champions.
For Bayern, it is reported by Plettenberg that the pricing, timing, and the fact that the club still does not have a new manager makes a move for Simons increasingly difficult for the club. He would more than likely cost somewhere in the range of €60-70m, but Bayern is not the only club expressing keen interest in singing him. Per Mundo Deportivo, the player is also interested in a potential move to Barcelona, and that he and his agent have recently met with PSG CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi to discuss plans of a departure this summer.
If Bayern was, somehow, able to pull off a move for Simons, they would have some player on their hands. The Dutchmen was a key part of Leipzig finishing in a Champions League place in the Bundesliga and showing a strong effort in the tournament itself this season. From a total of 43 appearances across all competitions, he tallied 10 goals and 15 assists.
