In a rather atypical move for a sporting director at Bayern Munich, Christoph Freund has been set on revamping the youth setup for the Bavarian giants. Having already brought in multiple coaches to help Bayern Munich’s youth academy, from Richard Kitzbichler to Rene Marić, Freund is set to add another name to the list, according to kicker and captured by @iMiaSanMia.
VfB Stuttgart’s technical coach Nathaniel Weiss seems set to join Bayern Munich. But it seems that this is not just a case of buying people from the club that challenged the Bavarian behemoth that sneaked ahead of the blistered Bavarian bottlers in the Bundesliga table. Instead, kicker claims that the American-born new guy (poor man had to grow up in Brooklyn) will be in charge of “transition of talents into the first team.” Which gives us a whole lot of nothing in terms of identifying what his actual job will be. It seems that we won’t know what his role is until he starts working in Munich.
It is truly interesting to see what Freund is doing at the FC Bayern campus. It certainly is ambitious and new but it is paying off. So far, every single one of his hires have played a crucial role in re-organizing a messy system. Given his track record, it is safe to assume Freund does have a special job role in mind for Weiss.
