Thomas Tuchel, during his tenure as Bayern Munich manager, played Harry Kane in almost every game throughout the season. Kane was the club’s best player and came in as a transfer over the summer from Tottenham Hotspur.
However, considering that Bayern Munich had one of its poorest seasons in recent memory, one might suggest that had Thomas Tuchel had more of a say in transfers, Bayern might have succeeded. What does Tuchel think regarding Bayern’s transfer policy? This is what Tuchel had to say (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
“It is not my understanding that I should hand over a piece of paper and say: Now get me this player or I’ll leave. That wasn’t the case in England either. It was always my intention to do my best for the team from a coaching perspective, always in the knowledge that there are also many other components, such as the financial ones. It is always an objective, goal-orientated exchange with the aim of improving the team,” said Tuchel. “Of course, there can be different opinions. I have no reason to complain. I’m still proud today that we got Harry Kane. I was so adamant about Harry that I ‘infected’ Brazzo with the fire. I stayed firm in the transfer committee and did everything so we get him.”
Tuchel clarified his position and mentioned that he always tried to do the best for his team from a coaching perspective. Unfortunately, results did not nearly match Tuchel’s ambitions.
