According to a report from Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich’s new coach, Vincent Kompany, is aligned with club executives Max Eberl and Christoph Freund in making massive changes to the team roster this summer:
Just like Eberl and Freund, Vincent Kompany also wants a radical change in the squad. The squad has already been discussed between the three of them several times. The future of players like Alphonso Davies, who is demanding a big salary, Joshua Kimmich, whose contract expires in 2025, Dayot Upamecano, Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman (who can imagine a move), is uncertain. Talks with the players are still to take place.
Not every player is at risk, though. Kompany’s former Manchester City teammate, Leroy Sané should be in good shape under Kompany:
Leroy Sané, on the other hand, could benefit from the appointment of Vincent Kompany. Both know and appreciate each other from their time together at Manchester City. Sané is very open to extending his contract beyond 2025. He wants to have the perspective of Champions League success with the club.
BFW Analysis
This opens up a can of worms.
We already know that Eberl created some friction between Bayern Munich and Flick with his lack of communication, but what was the delay in Eberl reaching out to the team’s former manager?
Was it because Flick did not believe the team needed a major facelift? That does seem possible, but is unfounded at this stage. One thing is certain, though, if this report is true — Eberl and Freund were always going to do it their own way with a “live by the sword, die by the sword” mentality. If they are going to succeed or fail, it will be on their own terms.
Will it work? We shall see…
The time they are a changin’ at Bayern Munich. Vincent Kompany looks like he is taking over in Bavaria, while the club’s former favorite son — Hansi Flick — is heading to FC Barcelona. Which one will make out better with their new club? We’ll find out, but in the meantime, there could also be some Bayern players who are on Flick’s transfer radar, too. basically, we’ve got a lot to talk about with all of that, plus some appreciation for Bayer Leverkusen’s incredible season.
