According to a report from Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich wants to know what new coach Vincent Kompany has cooked up for him as soon as possible.
Kimmich’s position — central midfield or right-back — could play a role in how the Germany international views his future in Bavaria. One hold-up, however, is that club executive Max Eberl cannot initiate any contract discussions with Kimmich at this point because the player represents himself and is a bit busy with preparations for the EURO 2024 competition at the moment:
Joshua Kimmich wants to know as soon as possible how Vincent Kompany is planning with him — at right-back or in midfield. Kimmich is a big fan of Pep Guardiola and his philosophy. Should Kompany implement a similar approach at Bayern, that could appeal to the player to stay. A potential move to Barcelona is currently not a hot topic despite the good relationship between Kimmich and Flick.
Barça could not afford Kimmich’s big salary at the moment unless one of their big earners — such as De Jong — leaves the club. The late decision to appoint a new coach is causing Bayern problems — because Kimmich is now focused on the EUROs and Max Eberl cannot just speak to an agent as the player represents himself.
If Kimmich does not like what he hears from Kompany, he will have options. As stated, Kimmich does have a connection with FC Barcelona via Flick (though it might not be realistic at the moment), but the 29-year-old also — allegedly — has interest from Real Madrid, Manchester City, Arsenal FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Clearly, if he wants to explore his options, Kimmich will have willing suitors.
Kimmich’s contract expires in 2025.
