Jonathan Tah had a tremendously successful season with Bayer Leverkusen, going undefeated in the Bundesliga to lift the title for the first time in the clubs history, winning the DFB Pokal and making it to the UEFA Europa League final.
Following his strong performances, the 28-year-old centre-back has garnered interest from Chelsea, Spurs and Bundesliga record champions, Bayern Munich.
When asked about the links to his Bundesliga title rivals, Tah was not surprised but pledged his focus to the German national team ahead of the 2024 UEFA EUROs.
“There has been speculation in the past few weeks and months. I can understand that due to my contract situation. But now I’ve just joined the national team and my full focus is on what’s happening here, which is special. I’m trying to ignore everything else as much as I can. But of course I can understand the question and the speculation,” Tah said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Tah has one year left on his contract with Bayer Leverkusen, set to expire in June 2025. Die Werkself are reportedly keen to extend the former Hamburg SV player’s contract, however, one year left on his contract will make his transfer all the more enticing for Bayern Munich.
In a similar vein to the Theo Hernández transfer, Bayern would likely have to sell a centre-back before signing Tah. With reports of Die Roten ready to axe as many as six players, Jonathan Tah may just find himself firmly on Bayern’s transfer list.
In the meantime, Tah is putting his full focus on helping German in their UEFA EURO opener at The Allianz Arena on 14 June.
