How many attacking midfielders can Bayern Munich have in its plans for the future? The answer is ‘yes’.
As veteran Thomas Müller’s career draws to a close — the Raumdeuter is likely embarking on his final professional campaign in 2024/25 — the Bavarians appear to be loaded with options to bolster the No. 10 position, including from its own youth ranks.
As rumors continue to swirl about Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, a Sky Sport report reminds us that Bayern has another youngster in its own pipeline: Lovro Zvonarek. Via @iMiaSanMia:
Bayern bosses see big potential in Lovro Zvonarek. The club is relying on the Croatian midfielder in the future. A loan move this summer is possible in order to get match practice. Clubs from the Bundesliga, England and Italy are interested. Decision is expected after preseason, depending on Kompany’s plans with the player [@kerry_hau, @SkySportNews]
The 19-year-old Zvonarek featured on and from the bench in the closing stages of Bayern’s 2023/24 campaign, in part due to injuries. The next step for him will be experience at the top senior level, and it makes sense to do that at a lower-tier club in a top league.
Zvonarek is not the only option for Bayern, however. 18-year-old Paul Wanner spent the previous season on loan and will be in a similar conversation this year, while established star Jamal Musiala may also find himself in the No. 10 by default if Müller retires and he is not needed on the wings.
