Bayern Munich has their eyes on quite a few players to sign this summer, and one of them includes Oumar Solet, 24-year old French center-back, who plays for RB Salzburg.
Solet was recently asked about Bayern’s rumored interest in an interview with Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), and he was vague with his responses, but also maybe dropped some hints.
“I was very surprised when I heard that. But of course it feels great. But it’s important that I don’t get carried away and stay down to earth. That’s the only way I can achieve a lot in my career,” said Solet.
Solet moved to Salzburg almost four years go, and Christoph Freund made that transfer possible when he was the sporting director at the Austrian club. Freund, who is now sporting director at Bayern, could possibly make Solet’s move to Sabener Strasse happen now. The French defender was asked about this too:
“He is a mentor for me. I owe him a lot. Christoph encouraged me, he was also a bit hard on me and always demanded a lot. That’s why I am the player I am today. But we haven’t talked about it in detail yet,” said Solet.
With the signing of Bayern’s coach, Vincent Kompany, who also played as center-back, Solet could potentially play under him soon:
“I liked him a lot as a player. I haven’t seen him as a coach yet, but I’ve heard a lot of good things. He places a lot of importance on working with young players. As a center-back, I could certainly learn a lot from him,” said Solet.
Solet was also asked about Dayot Upamecano as a role model for him, another center-back who made the move from RB Salzburg to the Bundesliga.
“Yes – definitely. You can learn a lot from him. He is a role model for all young players in Salzburg. He is a great player and has already achieved a lot. He now plays for a very big club. That’s also my goal,” Solet remarked.
When asked if he was ready to play for a club like Bayern in the big leagues, Solet was confident.
“Yes, I’m ready. I want to live my dream and do everything I can to make it happen. I think I showed in Salzburg that I can also play at a high level,” Solet said.
