Who could have seen this coming? After spending nearly the entire 2022-23 season stuck behind Marko Arnautovic, Joshua Zirkzee was finally free to become Italian side FC Bologna’s starting striker following the Austrian’s departure. And he made the most of it, becoming one of the hottest striker talents in the world and linked with a move to big clubs such as Arsenal and Juventus, but increasingly also to his former club, Bayern Munich. Considering striker Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting would leave the club in the summer, such rumors seem logical at face value. But, according to reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, this will not happen.
Di Marzio reports, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, that “Zirkzee’s priority is to stay in Serie A” rather than move abroad. Additionally, it seems that AC Milan have met with the 23-year-old’s agent and want to push for a move this summer, though a deal is “not close yet.”
It is pertinent to remember that it is widely reported that Bayern have a 50% sell on clause for Zirkzee, who also has a 40 million release clause in his Bologna contract. Even if Bayern do not sign the talented Dutchman, the club will likely collect a good amount of cash from his eventual sale.
