Even during his time as head coach of Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel always spoke of his time in England with a big smile on his face and with the clear message that he would always like to return. So, when he finally left Bavaria, it is far from surprising that he would immediately apply for what remains the biggest job in the Premier League: Manchester United. According to Christian Falk, Thomas Tuchel and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who currently has control over sporting matters for the Manchester based club, met in Monaco last Tuesday, June 4th.
Tuchel spoke about “his plans if he were to take over the coaching position in the event of Erik ten Hag being fired,” how he “could get United’s sporting problems like Sancho and Mason Mount back on track” and using his work at Chelsea FC to demonstrate how he could turn player’s fortunes around.
On the same day, however, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Tuchel did meet with United, but that he has decided to not continue them. Instead, he wants to take a break from coaching “any club this summer.” Considering the former Borussia Dortmund coach will be paid as if he were still coach at Bayern for the next season, taking a break seems like a logical decision. But how long will somebody like Tuchel really be willing to stay on the sidelines? We’ll see.
