According to a report by Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich may have missed out on a chance to sign a talented midfielder from Schalke. Assan Ouédraogo is set to sign a deal with RB Leipzig this summer, which will see the 18-year-old midfielder move for a transfer fee of around €10m. Leipzig will first assess the player over the summer and preseason before making a decision on whether to loan him back to Schalke for further development.

Bayern Munich were also interested in the player, but eventually balked at the prospect of paying €10m to sign him this summer. The club currently finds itself in a strange situation, with sporting director Christoph Freund and board member Max Eberl reportedly given a mandate to refresh the squad and reduce salaries across the board. As players like Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Kimmich find themselves potentially up for sale, it might mean that Bayern Munich would rather spend on their replacements — players like Jonathan Tah and João Palhinha — rather than an unproven Schalke youngster.
That doesn’t mean that Bayern’s transfer business for the summer has been concluded. We’ll probably see some more moves before the window closes in September.
