Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper and CEO Oliver Kahn knows that Manuel Neuer’s recent form was not exactly stellar heading into the EUROs.
However, that does not mean Kahn thinks Neuer is in for a hard time.
“It’s probably good for Manuel that the season is not over yet and that he’ll immediately play again. He can immediately focus on the next goal. Otherwise, the mistakes Manuel made recently would have stayed in his mind longer and would have kept him thinking,” Kahn told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “There are always two levels. One is the hard facts — there are definitely goalkeepers who have better numbers than Manuel at the moment. The second level is the psychological factor — the effect that Manuel has on the opponents and the effect he has on his own team. This factor is still huge for him. I can therefore imagine that he will manage to play well at the EUROs.”
The German national team will need Neuer on top of his game if it seeks to have any real chance of making an impact during the competition.
