Former Bayern Munich prospect Toni Kroos is a legend at Real Madrid and will be looking to add a bit more lore to his tale by trying to win the EURO 2024 tournament on his home soil in Germany.
Kroos is more than eager to get the battle going.
“Of course I’m hungry. That went hand in hand with the decision to come back here. Because I want to be successful and win this tournament. If I didn’t think it was possible, I wouldn’t have decided to come back,” said Kroos (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It must be our job to play well. We must reduce the phases in which we have problems to a minimum. We have many good phases during games and there’s still room for improvement. I know what potential we have in the team. We can beat any opponent.”
More than anything, Kroos wants to see Germany get off to a good start vs. Scotland on Friday.
“It would of course be important to play the opening game in a positive way. We know what kind of opponent we are facing. Scotland can be a very uncomfortable team to play against. I’ve also spoken to my teammates at Real Madrid, who lost to Scotland with Spain. So we are more than warned. We know it’ll be a very difficult game,” Kroos said. “It is of course even more special at a home European Championship. I don’t think there are many players who have experienced a major tournament at home. The country is enthusiastic. We have a big responsibility for the atmosphere in the country in the coming weeks. But it’s also a big honour and joy to be able to play in this tournament. Of course there’s pressure, but we also have to enjoy the pressure to some extent. In the end, it’s just football.”
