Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen is reportedly closing in on a Real Madrid transfer in the £127 million transfer that is scheduled to happen in the summer of 2025 suggesting that Liverpool has lost ground in the chase.
Top European clubs are interested in signing Wirtz who was one of the standout players from Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga-winning season and a strong candidate for Germany’s success at Euro 2024.
Still the most recent news suggests Liverpool might be losing out on the highly sought-after young talent.
Real Madrid is the beneficiary of two major agreements according to Spanish publication Marca.
The first deal guarantees that the 21-year-old will stay with the German champions until the end of the 2024–2025 season and involves Wirtz, his representatives and Bayer Leverkusen.
The second deal which is a verbal one with Real Madrid specifies Wirtz’s personal conditions for moving to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2025. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez reportedly has no financial constraints with a deal worth up to £127 million.
This information comes after a recent German report that also revealed Real Madrid’s interest in both Wirtz and Xabi Alonso, the current Leverkusen manager.
Rumor has it that Alonso and the playmaker are in line to join the Champions League winners in the same summer.

Alonso, who turned down the chance to manage Liverpool earlier this year will probably join the Spanish powerhouse as a manager with Wirtz. One of Europe’s most exciting young talents, Wirtz was linked to the Reds by a number of sources.
But with Real Madrid taking the lead right now it seems unlikely that Liverpool will be able to sign the midfield player.
At the moment Wirtz is concentrating on his international responsibilities and getting ready for his first significant national performance.
Germany’s first Euro 2024 matchup is against Scotland and its next two group stage opponents are Hungary and Switzerland.
As one of Europe’s most promising young talents Wirtz will have the chance to demonstrate his abilities on a grand scale at this tournament further solidifying his reputation.
Finally, it seems that Real Madrid is now the front-runner to sign Florian Wirtz despite the fact that Liverpool had previously expressed a great interest in him.
With agreements supposedly in place, the 21-year-old is anticipated to join the Spanish powerhouse in 2025, giving Liverpool more time to consider their options as they look to strengthen their squad.
