Scotland defender Andy Robertson could tell early on that his side was going to have its hands full with Germany during the EURO 2024 opening match at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena.
The Scots fell behind 2-0 within the first 19 minutes and ultimately dropped a disappointing 5-1 decision to a ruthlessly efficient Germany team.
“They had all the answers, really. They managed to mix up their play a lot. We didn’t know if they were going in behind or coming short into pockets. All of their good players showed up to the maximum and we didn’t. We didn’t hold on to the ball long enough, didn’t defend well enough and when you do that, the result is only going to go one way,” Robertson said in a statement released by UEFA (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Scotland will attempt to rebound on Wednesday against Switzerland. Surely, the squad will be looking for a better result.
