Amad has moved up the Man United pecking order, with the winger now viewed as an important member of the side.
Manchester United are heading in a different direction under INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe. You feel like the big-money signings will drastically reduce, with the club looking to put more emphasis on youth during a time where money is tight.
Erik ten Hag has showcased his ability to work with youth, promoting the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo into the first-team with regularity. Towards the end of the campaign, Amad also emerged.
The Ivory Coast international scored a crucial goal against Liverpool in the Reds’ successful FA Cup run, while being dripfed more minutes as the season wore on and he returned from injury.
Now, the Manchester Evening News have provided an update on Amad’s future, claiming that United now view the 21-year-old starlet as an ‘integral’ member of the Reds squad for the future.
Not too long ago, Omari Forson and Antony were ahead of Amad in the pecking order. The former has since moved to Monza. The latter has struggled all campaign long.
Now, United view Amad in the same bracket as the likes of Mainoo, Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund – which is certainly high praise for the young winger.
This promotion for Amad has been a long time in the making. The attacker started slowly after a big-money move from Atalanta, before a couple of loan moves followed. Injuries also haven’t helped his case.
Remember, though, Amad looked sharp in pre-season last summer, before going down with an injury. His season was much like Mainoo’s in that regard.
No doubt this is a confidence-booster for the young man, who’ll now be hoping for an injury-free run in the side. Who knows, this may lower United’s need to go out there and sign a top-class right-winger this summer…
