Man United are said to be talking to the agent of Joshua Zirkzee on a consistent basis, with the Reds still interested in signing the striker.
Manchester United Football Club could look to sign a new striker this summer, in order to provide some competition and help for Rasmus Hojlund after Anthony Martial’s departure.
Several names have already been linked with filling that void, though finding the ideal player will not be easy. You want someone who can be competitive with Hojlund, while not taking all the minutes away from the Dane, who is only going to continue to improve.
Perhaps the player who has been talked up the most is Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutchman had an excellent Serie A debut season with Bologna in 2023/24, scoring 12 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions.
Now, Give Me Sport have provided an update on Zirkzee’s future. According to their headline, United are said to be in ‘constant contact’ with his agent over the signing.
In their first paragraph, it’s stated that United are still ‘interested’ in acquiring the 23-year-old. However, United are facing a ‘short window’ to make this move happen.
Zirkzee is currently in transfer negotiations with Milan, though his agent is hoping that a Premier League side would join in the race for his signature. United look like they’re about to do just that.
United, along with Arsenal, are now being talked up as the most ‘serious’ destinations for Zirkzee, while Inter are seemingly stalling.
Zirkzee has a release clause of around £33m in his contract, though his agent is pushing for an additional £12m fee in various add-ons and bonuses, taking the total cost to around £45m.
United have no choice but to sign one striker this summer. Be it Zirkzee or someone else. This young man does feel like a good fit, though the deal is probably a little more expensive than United would like given their current financial situation.
