Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies had a rather poor 2023/24 season by his lofty standards under Thomas Tuchel. As rumors of Real Madrid transfer interest swirls, Davies is — at the moment — headed into a contract year with Bayern and has yet to extend.
Davies burst onto the scene as a 19-year-old for Bayern after moving from MLS and won everything there is to win in the club game. He has represented his country proudly as well, including at the World Cup in 2022.
Now, head coach Jesse Marsch has named him captain of the Canada men’s national team ahead of its Copa America campaign, which is set to kick off against Argentina on Thursday.
“Alphonso is a young and experienced professional who has all the tools to be an excellent captain. He has been in the spotlight from a young age and handled it very well, I know that he is up to the challenge of taking on a more expanded role with more responsibility,” Marsch said in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia:

Will the beloved Phonzie’s club troubles follow him to Copa America? Or will Phonzie rise above and remind everyone of his talents?
