After picking up an injury towards the end of the Bundesliga season for Bayern Munich, it looked like Kingsley Coman was going to face a tight race to be fit on time to go to the Euros for France, but that is a race he wound up winning. He made Didier Deschamps’ Le Bleus roster for the tournament in Germany and he has featured as a sub once, in France’s 0-0 draw against the Netherlands. He was an unused sub for the 1-0 win over Austria, but his involvement in the last group stage match against Poland is now in jeopardy.
Per information from L’Equipe (via @iMiaSanMia), Coman has been carrying a calf problem for France, and he did not take part in the team’s scrimmage against SC Paderborn’s youth team on Saturday in preparation for the Poland match. The scrimmage was also only a day after France’s 0-0 draw with the Netherlands in Leipzig, so it was also a recovery day for most of the players that played a part in that match.
Due to Kylian Mbappe’s broken nose sustained in the 1-0 win over Austria, Deschamps had to make some tweaks to France’s attacking line for the Netherlands match. Mbappe not playing a part is something that certainly helped Coman see some action.
However, Coman will face a late fitness test to determine whether or not he will be able to play a part in the Poland match. It is France’s final group stage match and they will want to be securing three points in Dortmund to leapfrog the Dutch into the top spot of group D.
