Though Nestory Irankunda is the notable exception, high profile youth transfers for Bayern Munich have been been rather scarce so far this summer. Following on from how the transfer committee completely prioritized the first team during the 2023 summer transfer window, it just seems like things have been far more quiet than usual for Bayern Munich when it comes to youth transfers.
There was a spark in recent days, however, as 16-year-old Jorthy Mokio of KAA Gent was linked to Bayern, as reported by Mike Verweij and captured by @iMiaSanMia. The profile reporter noted that the likes of Bayern, FC Barcelona and Eredivise champions PSV and Ajax were in for him, but that Ajax were hopeful the center back “would choose them and prioritize the development aspect over the financial one.”
It seems that their hopes were well placed, as Fabrizio Romano reports Ajax are set to already complete the deal for Mokio soon, with the youngster signing a contract until 2027 — apparently beating out the three other teams for his signature.
