Karólína Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir and Emilie Bragstad were both sent on loan to Bayern Leverkusen on loan this past season. Bayern Munich has announced their future with the club this week. Bragstad will leave the club and sign a permanent deal with Leverkusen. Vilhjálmsdóttir has signed a contract extension with Bayern through 2026 and will return to Leverkusen on loan for the upcoming season.
Bragstad came to Bayern in 2022 and made 14 appearances for the first team and fourteen times for the second team before going on loan to Leverkusen. For Bayer 04, she started in all 21 matches that she appeared in — all at center-back — and scored two goals.
Vilhjálmsdóttir has been with Bayern since 2021 and has 31 appearances in first team matches before being sent on loan to Leverkusen. The 22-year-old Icelander scored five times for Leverkusen last season.
Bianca Rech, the department head over the women’s team at Bayern, said this about the Vilhjálmsdóttir contract extension and new loan move, “We are very happy that Karólína has extended her contract with us until 2026. She has developed well in the past year in Leverkusen and had a strong season. In a very intense conversation with Karólína we spoke about the fact that it will be very important for the future to gain a lot of game experience now. Because of that, a further year with the Werkself is a significant step in her development.”
