Germany’s EURO 2024 Round of 16 opponents are set now that Group C’s final group stage matches have concluded.
Facing Germany on Saturday at the Signal Iduna Park will be…Denmark, who finished second place in Group C after a 0-0 draw to Serbia.
However, while Denmark may have been the expected matchup, it was actually a close call. Slovenia drew 0-0 to England as well, tying the Danes on both points (three) and goals difference (zero). In the end it came down to the Fair Play tiebreaks. While both teams finished with two bookings on the last day, Slovenia accumulated one more yellow card through the group stage.
So the Germans came awfully close to matching up with Slovenia instead. Slovenia will play either Portugal or the first place finisher in Group E — where Romania, Belgium, Slovakia, and Ukraine all sit tied on three points apiece — according to the UEFA.com brackets.
