“Who is this guy?”
Bayern Munich fans were asking as a quick, skillful young winger from the academy was brought on to the pitch in the DFB-Pokal first round against FC Düren, blasting past multiple opposing defenders and threatening their goal multiple times. It seemed that Bayern had yet another talented gem that could break into the first team. Then the youngster went down, had to hobble off and missed the rest of the season due to injury.
It has not been easy for Armindo Sieb. After painstakingly working to come back and recover from his bad injury, he moved to Greuther Fürth, where he sporadically caught the eye with some spectacular bicycle kicks before finishing last season with an impressive 15 goal contributions for the midtable side.
This form seemed to have caught the attention of both Bayern and Mainz 05, as reported via Sky Sport and captured by @iMiaSanMia. The two clubs will reportedly engage in a roundabout transfer deal where Bayern Munich activate a €1.5 million buyback clause in Sieb’s contract to sign him back from Die Kleeblätter, only to then loan him out again to Mainz with an option to buy.
One would hope Bayern would make the option to buy more expensive than the fee to sign him back. Other than that, it seems like a very low risk move from the Bavarians and low key business. However, it is also a phenomenal opportunity for the talented Sieb to finally reach the level his talent demands he should and he has been unable to since his injury set him back.
