Bayern Munich announced that it will travel to 1. FC Düren to play a friendly on July 28th:
On July 28, FC Bayern will play a friendly match against 1. FC Düren from the Regionalliga West. The German record champions are thus fulfilling a promise made during the Corona period. Background: In October 2020, Düren, as winners of the Middle Rhine Cup, were drawn against the then Champions League winners as their opponents in the DFB Cup. Due to the pandemic, the situation was complicated and the joy was clouded; Düren waived its home advantage, and no spectators were allowed in the Allianz Arena either.
The match will take place in the Karl-Knipprath Stadium in the neighboring municipality of Jülich, which will have space for 9,000 guests for the visit of the German record champions thanks to additional stands.
For Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, the club is repaying a debt of sorts.
“We’re happy that we can now keep our promise from the Corona period. 1. FC Düren was deprived of a unique experience back then. We are now happy to make up for that for the fans in this region. As FC Bayern, we want to be close and tangible – we are looking forward to our away game against Düren,” Dreesen said.
