After swooping in and securing 25-year-old center-back Hiroki Ito from Stuttgart for €23M, Bayern Munich still remain in hot pursuit of Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen. Tah is currently holding down the starting spot next to Antonio Rüdiger for the German national team, but Tah has reportedly agreed to personal terms with Bayern.
According to a report from Sport Bild (as captured by @MiaSanMia), Bayern Munich’s initial offer was below €20M. Leverkusen refuses to sell to its primary rival in the Bundesliga and is demanding a transfer fee over €40M.
Transfermarkt rates Tah at €30M, which seems to be the figure that both clubs are negotiating around. This negotiation is less about money for Leverkusen because Tah was a leader for last season’s title-winning squad. However, Tah’s contract expires next summer and Leverkusen will need to decide if one more year is worth forgoing a transfer fee that fan be applied to a replacement this summer.
