Georgia keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has become one of the stars of EURO 2024, but the 23-year-old Valencia keeper, once linked to Bayern Munich, does not look like he is moving to Bavaria anytime soon.
Mamardashvili was apparently a topic for the Rekordmeister last summer, in the wake of uncertainty over Manuel Neuer’s long recovery from a devastating leg injury suffered after the 2022 Men’s World Cup.
However, the Bavarians ultimately signed Daniel Peretz as a third goalkeeper and went with Sven Ulreich until Neuer was able to return. Now the GOAT is starring for his club and for Germany at the EUROs…and Mamardashvili has admitted he can’t see a path to Bayern as a result.
“Bayern still have the best goalkeeper in the world. Therefore, it’s currently not possible to move there. I would only go there if I’ll play. If I don’t play, then not,” Mamardashvili told Sky Sports (as captured by Florian Plettenberg).
Plettenberg reports that the Bavarians may still revisit the topic in a future year, however. The Georgian international is under contract at Valencia until 2027, and Bayern’s goalkeeper situation may change significantly in one to two years’ time.
