Bayern Munich star and Germany right-back Joshua Kimmich knows just how good Spain is, but he is not afraid of the Spaniards. In fact, these are the types of games that Kimmich lives for.
“Spain have played very well so far. We also had good games. It will be a tough game for both teams. There are certainly easier draws, but if you want to win the tournament, there’s no way around Spain. But I also don’t think Spain are happy about getting us as opponents either,” said Kimmich (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Spain is a team that wants to control the game. But we want that too. We need dynamism, courage and power. Hopefully we will also have the home advantage. In the end, it’s our responsibility on the pitch to take the fans with us. Our goal is absolutely to beat Spain and progress.
“They have two good players on the wings. It will be very interesting, we have to find solutions as a team, but there will certainly be 1v1 situations. Let’s see what happens.”
Kimmich is one of those rare birds, who wants to play more and more (even if his body tells him that it needs a rest). If he had things his way, Germany and Spain would be playing sooner than on Friday.
“I’m generally a fan of playing games and I’m happy about every game I can play. I prefer to have mid-week games, when you get to play more. Maybe I’ll make myself a bit unpopular with this opinion,” Kimmich said with a laugh.
