According to a report from Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (via @iMiaSanMia), not all hope is lost for Bayern Munich to re-up Joshua Kimmich, but it is not exactly an overly optimistic outlook either.
Per the German journos, Bayern Munich will ask Kimmich to accept a major pay cut, as the club seeks to trim 20% of its payroll:
There’s still a small chance Joshua Kimmich would extend his contract at Bayern – but with conditions. The supervisory board’s goal is to reduce the wage bill by 20%, which is one of the reasons players who earn big salaries are candidates for sale – including Kimmich
At the moment, it seems unlikely that both parties will be able to reach an agreement – unless Kimmich accepts a major cut to his current salary of around €20m/year. Kimmich would have to accept at least a quarter less than he currently earns in order to sign a new contract. It remains to be seen whether he would agree to that.
