One of the most shocking recurring news stories of the current transfer period is that Bayern Munich are looking to sell Joshua Kimmich, who has been an irreplaceable mainstay in the squad for the past seven years. To make matters even more controversial, an interview with Kimmich talking about a perceived lack of support from Bayern during a time where he did not want to take the COVID vaccine, leading to him losing faith in the club, was released just a few weeks ago. Considering the impressive controversy around Kimmich at the moment, it was only a matter of time before Bayern Munich’s executives were to be asked about the topic.
Is Kimmich’s departure from Bayern imminent? As captured by @iMiaSanMia, in a recent interview with WELT Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer refused to commit to an answer: “Joshua himself has already said his quotes were from a few years ago. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for him at the Euros, and then we’ll be happy when he returns to Munich — hopefully as a European champion, I would wish that for him from the bottom of my heart.”
If a club official is asked if a player is set to leave, refusing to comment on the topic at all is usually a clear sign. Considering Hainer was willing to say that he hoped Kimmich would stay at Bayern until the end of his playing career less than a year ago in October of 2023, such a lack of commitment seems rather telling. Then again, as the Julian Nagelsmann debacle proved, Hainer’s comments are not always entirely accurate.
