West Ham United are showing a strong interest in signing in a truly elite attacking midfielder this summer.
Julen Lopetegui is on the hunt for a new number 10 at West Ham, with Lucas Paqueta facing an extremely uncertain future in the game due to the charges he faces for alleged betting breaches.
The Spaniard faces a busy summer transfer window, with numerous new additions needed, and some key exits to oversee as well.
We all know that the signings of a high quality, proven striker and a top-class centre-back are Lopetegui’s main two priorities.
However, that doesn’t mean that the 57-year-old should ignore the need to bolster in other positions – namely the attacking midfield department.
And an opportunity has now presented itself to the West Ham boss, regarding the availability of one of his key transfer targets this summer…
West Ham need to pay £34 million for Albert Gudmundsson
The Genoa ace has been heavily linked with a move to the Hammers already this summer.
Now it’s very clear what West Ham need to do in order to bring him to the London Stadium before the start of the new season.
According to a report from Italian media outlet La Repubblica, Genoa are demanding £34 million up front in cash for Gudmundsson.
The Iceland international can play anywhere along the front-line but is at his best when operating in the number 10 role or out on the left wing.

He possesses incredible technical ability and is very quick along the ground. £34 million seems like a fair price to pay for the Genoa star.
Gudmundsson was absolutely brilliant for Genoa last term, and he racked up an impressive 16 goals and five assists in 37 games.
Signing Albert Gudmundsson this summer should be a no-brainer for West Ham. Whether the Hammers owners are prepared to pay that kind of cash for the 27-year-old remains to be seen though.
It must be said, PSR restraints may well prevent the East London outfit from paying £34 million up front for the Icelandic ace.
