Break a leg, as they say — or a hand?
Borussia Dortmund and Germany star Niclas Füllkrug did just that in his first match at EURO 2024 — before the first whistle had blown, and it wasn’t his hand. Instead, the striker hit a warm-up shot so sweetly that it injured a fan in the stands.
Füllkrug went on to score in Germany’s 5-1 win over Scotland that day, and afterwards, sent a signed jersey to the fan who was forced to miss the game on his account:
And if you missed the original, here it is (via @iMiaSanMia):
A member of the national team fan club, Kai Flathmann, broke his hand after being accidentally hit by a Niclas Füllkrug strike during the warm-up for the Scotland game. The fan was sitting in the front row next to the goal at Allianz Arena
Flathmann told @BILD: “I sang the anthem on the stretcher. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, I unfortunately had to give up my dream of attending the opening game. But when do you ever get your hand broken by Fülle?”
Füllkrug was very sorry about the incident and will send Kai an apology package with a shirt and a kind message.
