In a recent interview with Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer, one reporter was rather forward and daring with a certain question. Given CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen’s contract is set to expire in 2025 and Thomas Müller’s contract as a player expires at the same time, could Müller be a candidate to become Bayern Munich’s CEO?
Naturally, in an interview with WELT captured by @iMiaSanMia, Hainer reminded everyone that his playing career is not over yet: “We like Thomas Müller where he is right now: on the pitch. I hope he wins many more titles as a player.” Precisely. Who is to say Müller’s playing career ends in 2025?
However… “Of course, it would be nice if he stayed with the club one day – in what role? That would then have to be discussed.”
The idea that Müller would adopt a non-playing role for the Bavarian giants after his playing career ends has been an idea that has cropped up time and time again due to Müller’s unique charisma, likability, leadership skills and his understanding of the game, the latter of which has seen him described as almost an assistant coach for Julian Nagelsmann during Germany’s charge to win Euro 2024. Can he translate that into a successful role at Bayern Munich? Well, why not?
